I'm getting the impression that this project is not that popular. If the rest of the posts are just me updating the progress and pretty much dominating the thread, then I'm continuing on my lonesome and you can wait to see the final release on Armaholic!

Cheers!

By the way, I don't think it was really necessary to write: "You don't have to play it though if you don't want too, we're not forcing anything on anyone."
I'm an adult, and I'm fully aware of what I do and don't have to do, and I know that no one can to force me to use your mod, okay? Perhaps you misinterpreted my question?

However, I wish you good luck with the project

I wrote that in the same vain as if a mission for OFDR were made, not in as a slight towards you. things get released and its a choice we make to play them or not. thats what I was getting at.

anyway, misinterpretation or politics aside, this project is one hefty piece of work and a little bit more help wouldn't go a miss if anyone can offer any?

For now, here's is the Sat map I've been working on, with a mix of L3DT, Google Earth and Photoshop, I managed to create a pretty decent working sat map for in game images and the editor map image.

ya not the only one tbh! I'd like to see that too. there is however a command addon that we could use to replicate it or failing that go with a voice activated system such as VAC (bit slow in its response) or Articulate, (better, but dev is not happening on that atm I don't think).

Little update though.

today, JJ gave me the actually Heightmap from DR, I got it in the tools and got it in game, looks nice but neeeds alot of work object wise and some terrain tweaking to get rid of some obscure grid lines left over from the heightmap.

here's another screenie for ya! well 3 anyway. I was talking with JJ about the island tonight and I came up with the idea of moving the marshes/salt flats from the original location. Reason being publishing rights etc, but I have plans for the salt flats now too, so all is not lost there. To make the island still DR but ours in a way we have not copied EEVERYTHIIIING, I movd the marsh area to just outside Lartskoye on the big flat beach area.

check out these pics, looks alittle like an oasis with the palm trees.

it might look small but trust me its not, I was out of breath after the first set of rocks from the shoreline.

Why Not! it was tried for a2 and the guy gave up on it, So I'm doing it for A3 and by comparison of the two so far in the work I've already acheived, notably tonight with a better looking satmap, the A3 version looks ten times better. Plus, its personal mission for me to see it in Arma.

Re: Dragon Uprising

Post by John J. Stevens on Tue 28 Oct 2014, 11:18

I think the point mdog is making (and myself as well) is we had always envisioned a DR experience that included some additional but basic things - these are things the ARMA engine and community can provide since it is supported and expandable platform geared to tactical game design.

So why a DR REBOOT with taking back KISKA, simply because we can.  It provides a common ground and reference to build and learn from - a measuring stick of sorts.

We have learned a lot about what went into making Skira out of a tundra based Kiska, the actual historical background verses the game, even viewed the visual remnants of a battle-torn island.  All this information will be blended into a composite island that is more historically correct, DR themed and slightly expanded.

There is other information to share in the future but for now it is simply enough to say that we are taking our first steps towards doing something that we have be hatching for well over the past three years.

No doubt we will be looking for others that are interested in applying their skills in modeling, importing, textures and interface down the road.

If you are such a person, feel free to let us know what floats your boat or are interested in giving a go, and so to reduce the clutter, we are chock full of idea guys for the time being.

Hope that helps and clarifies things abit.

Incoming Update!

JJ showed me a neat little trick last night on windows. The sniiping tool that everyone has, if you have windows that is?? has allowed me to take screen shots of the editor map as 2 grid squares, quite close in and get a good resolution of the island. This includes seeing building placements, and the patches of woodland and rock placement. This is mainly for making the roads, but its useful for the building locations too.

I then pasted that into a new doc in PS and each 2 grid block I manage to grab using the snipping tool I puzzle place them back to gether in Photoshop. this then gives me the ability to use it as a satmap in Terrain builder. I then use the polyline tool and map out the roads.

Got a ten by ten square block done so far, a stretch from the east end of the island right up to mount Stanovoy. So I reckon I can piec this together in about a 5 more hours. Without RL getting in the way which it will.

I'm not sure if this project is still being worked on, but I'd just like to chime in and say having Skira Island in Arma 3 and possibly even a recreation of the DR campaign would be awesome!

Sure, it still wouldn't be DR, but most everyone I know plays Arma 3 these days and it would be fun to travel Skira once more with them. Plus, Skira is just a unique setting and a quality build could really provide some of the more wooded terrain that Arma 3 lacks.

That's awesome to hear! It really has a lot of potential, in my humble opinion. If you could even manage to get some custom buildings, flora and scenery in there, it could possibly be the best custom map in Arma 3.

That has been our thinking and we know that some of the hardcores would find it an affront but ARMA is such a free-form world, that it should be easy to carve out a segment of people that want to focus on task oriented missions.

My goal is creating the island. Making look better and more diverse than the CM version.

At this stage i'm not worried about interface, squad control or missions based ideas. There's plenty of people out there that can do that one the island is done. When its finished it'll go to the masses to use as their playground.
