Improving graphics tweak Empty Improving graphics tweak

On the other forums I think there was a thread on how to tweak and improve the graphics (and possibly draw distance??) in DR.
I have tried to find this thread but I cannot find it.

You need to go (if you have retailed version of game [i guess, might be wrong though]) to Documents/My Games/OFDR/hardware settings.
Then, before you do anything to settings, it'd be wise to check "hardware_settings_restrictions" in data_win/system/ folder to checkout what is allowed to tweak in game. Then head back to Documents/......... and open with NotePad "hardware_settings_config" file to tweak it.
The best is to keep both windows open and check in realtime what you're tweaking.

Its actually a simple thing to do, just follow these instructions :

copy the SYSTEM folder from DATA into DATA_WIN

open the hardware_settings_restrictions.xmls file and change the appropriate section to look like this :

Code:
   <ground_cover>
        <restrict_set name="tilesPerLOD" default="24">
            <allowed value="8" />
            <allowed value="24" />
            <allowed value="49" />
            <allowed value="81" />
            <allowed value="122" />
            <allowed value="256" />
        </restrict_set>
        <restrict_float_range name="lodScale" default="1.0" min="0.1" max="15.0" />
    </ground_cover>

then open the config file in My Documents\My Games\OFPDR\hardwaresettings\hardware_settings_con fig.xml

and change the appropriate area to look like this :
Code:

    <coverage tolerance="1.000000" />
    <ground_cover lodScale="15.00000" tilesPerLOD="8" />

there you go, grass is gone! Looks a little crap though.

also, you can go the opposite way and make grass super dense. The problem with this is that it seems the game has a max number of grass entities that game be in the game at any one time, so the more you lower the LOD, the more grass, but closer the grass will stop being drawn.

I find these settings are good for pretty far distance grass

Code:
    <coverage tolerance="0.000000" />
    <ground_cover lodScale="1.20000" tilesPerLOD="256" />

Enjoy

Testing this now - it seems to be an NVIDIA graphics mod and has been updated for Radeon (which is what I now use)

RadeonPro

The articles on FXAA seem nice, whether it fills in the gaps of OFDR is another story.
