Omar,
If you want to paint metal properly, you really should strip off any existing finish with steel wool or bead blasting. Plus, paint sticks much better to a rough surface. Whether you skip that step or not, thoroughly degrease the metal with something like isopropyl alcohol before applying any new finish. Spray paint like Krylon will work fine. If you need higher temperature sustainability, use BBQ/grill paint or engine paint. But the best finish will come from a spray & bake ceramic like DuraCoat or Cerakote. These ceramics are tough as nails, clean up quickly, and are the best way to protect the metal from oxidation.
Hope that helps!
