I have recently been chatting to nfmz1 aka, Bill Miller who was a member of Seawolves back in the nineties. He has big plans for the new year with the re-birth of Seawolves which kind of dissolved as time went on. This is something he has been planning on doing for a while and it would be nice if we could all show our support in his efforts.

Comments will be open for the community now if you would like to contribute.

here is the chat I had with him.

So nfmz1 can you tell us all a little about Seawolves and where it all began?

Seawolves started out way back in 1998 playing only Submarine simulations. We were a Virtual Military Command. Meaning, we do things like the military. You have ranks, Time In Grade, COC, Sitreps, Reports, Billets etc. Just like the military. We were NOT a clan. We did things differently. There were requirements to be a Seawolves member, you had to participate to make the group grow and prosper.

Seawolves grew to being huge in size and being the goto group for various developers and mod makers including the makers of Dangerous Waters,688i and fleet command, SWAT 4, CFDA (Canadfian Forces Direct Action a SWAT 4 mod built by the Canadian Army we helped test)various FFUR mods, MCM mod, Greywolves, and many many more over the years, too many to list.

As the years went on Seawolves developed other branches that included SWSF (Seawolves Special Forces) They played Novalogic games (Mainly Delta Force), SWAF (Seawolves Armed Forces) playing Operation Flashpoint,  Airwolves whiched played Falcon 4.0 and I believe LOMAC (Lockon Modern Air Combat) and STAT (Seawolves Tactical Assault Team) Which played everything else FOS based including in the beginning Rogue Spear, Ghist Recon, Ravenshield, Americas Army etc.

As time progressed, gaming changed as we all know. Problem was Seawolves didn’t change! Matter of fact they HATED anything that even threatened the Status Quo. Examples are; we never adapted newer naval Sims (Silent Hunter series was suggested but shot down) So each of the divisions in their own times started to either splinter off into other clans or just died off due to not changing with the times and being left behind.Seawolves went from 1000+ members at one time to under 20 now.

We were overbearing, bloated, we had too many chiefs and not enough indians, we promoted people who poisoned Seawolves with negativity and ran good people off. We refused to grow as an organization. We hated anything new. We refused to embrace new technology and trends in gaming. Instead of growing with the times we assumed we were bigger than the times and it would adapt to us. Well that was fubar thinking.

So times have changed now, how will Seawolves be different after its rebirth?

We are rebuilding for the new year. I am taking the helm of this organization and building it from the ground up. A fresh start you could say! We are working on putting the fun BACK into playing again!

How will people be aware of Seawolves?

Social Media has come along way in the past ten years, so we are embracing its ability to keep people connected. Everyone seems to have cellphones and Facebook,Google + Twitter etc. We will be incorporating these into Seawolves.

Is there a website available yet?

We will be purchasing a website from Iclanhosting.com i believe unless we find a better hosting package. But the new site is where we plan on building our online world. We will be updating our website to a newer faster format. No more broken or dead links. Also it will have a fresh look as well.

Check out the old look here

We will use Google Email,Drive and docs for main communications (Reports, training docs, file sharing  etc). We will have share Drive folders so whenever we add missions or files you will AUTOMATICALLY get access to them. No more stopping a game to have to get someone a link to get the file. Their Google Drive will already have a folder in it with our files.

So as you can see we are already working towards the future.

What type of ingame communications will Seawolves be using?

At the moment we use Teamspeak. Our current server sucks, we know it, but its paid for for a year so we are using it. We will be changing Teamspeak servers once the subscription is up and restart on a fresh more reliable server.

Is there anything that you are thinking of doing that you have not done before?

We have embraced consoles with the new year and are very excited with the introduction of PSN for both PS3 and PS4 games. As for sims we are open until we build that audience but so far we are looking at War Thunder, F1 2013, NASCAR 2013, Battlefield 4, ARMA III, DRAGON RISING to start with. ArmA III will be our main PC sim. War Thunder looks to be both PC and PS4. We will be Steam and PSN based. Steam will be required for PC members. PSN for console members.

Is Seawolves soley for shooters then or is it going to open the doors to other game genres?

We are looking to adding a race team in 2014. Race07 seems to be the choice for PC and various others for PSN use (these will be hammered out by the new year and when the PS4 arrives)

You mentioned earlier in the history of Seawolves that members had ranks and got promoted etc, will this be adopted this time around?

Yes, members will have ranks. Everyone has to apply and fill in an application form that will be vetted by the administrators. Then once accepted they will get a rank and assigned a position within the team.

We will have training sessions available for members to progress up the ranks. But they can also raise the ladder through playing. Things like how they played within their teams, using tactics, had good gamesmanship. There is the flipside to this also, if you are abusive to gamers, consistently not showing up for game nights, teamkilling etc you can be demoted.

Youtube will be utilized for video training sessions (we used to have 4 hour IRC classes that you would fall asleep in lol for War College and Advanced War College) This will use some of the communities best and brightest video makers that are already out there (think Dyslecxi as an example) They will be more enjoyable and easier to sit through.

We will have gaming night that will be posted far in advanced with Google Calendar integration so you will get alerts and updates when these events are coming up.

We have taken the stance of 85-15 which means we want people to play 85% of the time and realistically only have to devote 15% of their online time to Seawolves stuff. It used to be the other way around. You seemed to get bombarded by Seawolves issues and never get in any play time. Which drove people off as well.

Sounds like this could be a bit of fun for gamers that want to be playing with like minded people?

We will adapt for new players and members. Meaning if someone wants to play WE will change our games (IE mods addons etc) to get these people in our games and playing. No more will we make people seem they have to download 100 gigs worth of stuff just to game with us.

I know its a bit much to comprehend but it is a game plan that we feel we can bring to light in the new year. We will be small. We like small. We will be Tactical in design. Think Special Operations tactical. We will evolve, grow and change as the times change with us. No more will we be stuck in the past. We are looking to the future. We used to say we were “The Best Of The Best” Now we same “ Ducimus” Which means “We Lead”.

Any final words to the public?
